BlackBerry maker Research in Motion's iPad rival, PlayBook, is all set to launch in India.
According to a news story in Business Today online, RIM PlayBook will be launching in India on June 22 for approximately Rs 32,000 (pricing may vary depending on the version you buy)
.
RIM's long-awaited response to Apple's iPad, PlayBook went on sale in the United States and Canada on April 19. It is expected to launch on June 20 in Australia.
RIM sold about 250,000 PlayBook tablets in the first month after its launch, according to a report. The PlayBook failed to make an initial impact as pre-launch reviews had described it as a 'half baked' product by RIM in an attempt to project it as a rival to Apple's iPad.
However, in a research note sent to its clients, RBC Capital Markets -- an investment bank of the top Royal Bank of Canada -- said that the PlayBook is on target to meet its sale target of half a million by the end of the current quarter. RBC's note also claimed that PlayBook is outselling Motorola's Honeycomb tablet, Xoom.
The RIM device runs on a 1GHz dual-core processor, has 7 inch 1024x600 WSVGA capacitive LCD touch screen and the Blackberry Tablet OS. Dual cameras capable of recording full 1080p footage give PlayBook slight edge over iPad 2 in the imaging department.
