Collegiate champions Ateneo and San Beda try to forge a title showdown when they collide against separate opponents Friday in the semifinals of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
The Blue Eagles take on unbeaten Far Eastern University at 4 p.m. while the Red Lions battle upset-hungry Adamson in the opener at 2 p.m. The winner will meet in a one-game final on Sunday.San Beda easily made its way into the semis with a 97-68 rout of University of the Philippines.
The NCAA champion Red Lions will rely again on Garvo Lanete and Ola Adeogun.
The Falcons, backed by Freego Jeans, dethroned reigning champion San Sebastian, 90-81, behind the efforts of veterans Lester Alvarez, Alex Nuyles and Eric Camson.
The San Beda-Adamson clash is a sort of a rematch of the PBA D-League first round playoffs meeting two weeks ago.Adamson, which represented Freego, defeated the San Beda-backed Maynilad Water, 88-81, with Alvarez, Camson and Nuyles leading the way.
Ateneo, seeking a fourth straight UAAP championship, defeated Mapua, 63-56, in Monday's quarterfinal action and coach Norman Black expects an interesting shootout with FEU.
The Tamaraws have won all their nine games thus far, including a 73-68 rout of La Salle.
